Why Instruct Nigel Askew Solicitors?
All new personal injury claims start with an initial phone consultation, during which we will ask you questions to help us build a picture of the accident, your injuries and your recovery.
If you have been seriously injured at work, it is likely you will have received medical treatment and been assessed by a doctor or specialist. We will need to see your medical records so we can gauge the severity of your injuries, so with your permission will request these on your behalf.
Once we have a clear picture of the circumstances around your accident, we will be able to decide if we can take your claim forward. If we believe your potential claim has good prospects of success, we will offer to represent you on a No Win No Fee basis.
We always recommend to clients that they should not delay in contacting us, as there are very strict time limits involved in claims for personal injury.

Claim time limits
There are very strict time limits involved in making personal injury claims.
The law in England and Wales states that you have 3 years from the date of an accident to start your claim for compensation. In some cases, where an accident date is not clear such as a repetitive type wrist injury, this claim limit starts from the date you first linked your wrist injury symptoms to your work.
There are some exceptions to this rule but we recommend you contact us as soon as possible to discuss your potential claim.

How much compensation can I claim for a shoulder injury?
It is human nature to want to know how much compensation you may be able to claim for your injury, before deciding if you would like to proceed.
It is very difficult for us to provide you with an exact claim value before we know the extent of your injuries as every claim is different. A lot will depend on the severity of your injury, whether it has prevented you from working and if you have suffered any financial loss as a result and if you will suffer a loss in the future as a result of not being able to work.
However, there are guideline amounts to which lawyers, insurers and the Courts commonly refer to, to assess the value of past compensation awards for particular injuries, on which the value of new claims are then based. These guidelines are called Judicial College Guidelines and the latest set (15th edition) were published at the end of 2019.
The guideline amounts for wrist injuries are as follows:
- Severe wrist injuries that lead to complete loss of function – £44,690 to £56,180
- Severe wrist injury that leads to significant disability but still has useful ability – £22,990 to £36,770
- Serious wrist injuries, such as a fracture, that leads to permanent ongoing pain or problematic symptoms – £11,280 to £22,990
- Wrist fractures and soft tissue injuries where recovery is longer but complete – up to £9,620
*Every wrist injury claim is different and your claim may be worth more or less than these figures quoted. These guidelines are purely used as an estimate.
Wrist injury claims can be worth significantly more when “special damages” are factored in.
What are Special Damages?
Special damages are completely separate to compensation that is paid for your pain and suffering, which are the figures quoted above.
They make up part of the total claim value and include loss of earning claims and costs associated with long term care and rehabilitation. If you have been unable to work since your accident or will have difficulty working in the future then your “loss” can be claimed for.
Special damages can increase the value of a claim by hundreds of thousands of pounds and in some cases, millions of pounds.
