A serving army soldier sustained a noise induced hearing loss, including tinnitus, when on tour of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was regularly exposed to mortar and heavy machine gun fire without being issued with any hearing protection. He was subsequently medically discharged from the army on the grounds of his hearing loss, and was awarded an MOD pension on account of this. A claim was brought for compensation against the MOD for his hearing loss, plus loss of earnings and pension. His claim eventually settled for £625,000 damages.
